Thank you for your interest in supporting the 43rd National Veterans Wheelchair Games in New Orleans, Louisiana!  By becoming a volunteer, you join the ranks of thousands who are dedicated to making this event, and we welcome your contribution.

We are very excited to bring the 43rd National Veterans Wheelchair Games to New Orleans, Louisiana. The team from VA, PVA, and our hosts with the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System have been working tirelessly to make sure your experience is outstanding. We are confident that all the Veterans will bring the heat to the competition and guarantee that you’ll have a great time in the Crescent City.

Here is information to assist in making your volunteer experience as pleasant and efficient as possible.

 

Volunteer Check-In

Volunteers must check in when they arrive for their shift. Please refer to your registration for the date, time, and location of your shift.

 

Convention Center:

 

  • Volunteer check-in is room 242. Enter the convention center at Hall G (entrance under the bridge) and go left. Look for the signs on the wall that direct you to the rooms which are on the second floor.  Again, all volunteers report to room 242 for check-in. Someone will direct you to you assigned area. The NVWG activities will take place in Halls E and F.

 

Offsite locations: Offsite volunteers check-in at the respective location.

 

  • Airport check-in at the welcome desk near Door 4 on the first floor

 

  • Hotels (Hampton Inn Convention Center, Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans Convention Center, Renaissance New Orleans Arts Warehouse District Hotel, Hilton New Orleans Riverside)
  • Bass Fishing (Bayou Segnette State Park, 7777 Westbank Expressway, Westwego, LA 70094)
    • Proceed to the through the guard shack to the boat launch for volunteer check-in.

 

  • Bowling (Bowlero, 3640 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA 70065)

 

  • Swimming (Cross Gates Fitness Center, 200 North Military Road, Slidell, LA 70461)

 

  • Cycling (City Park Festival Grounds, 61 Friedrichs Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70124)

 

 

Parking

Convention Center: There is limited parking available at the Morial Convention Center.  Volunteer parking will be permitted at the VA Medical Center Visitor/Patient parking garage on the corner of Tulane Ave. and S. Galvez St.  An hourly shuttle will be provided from the medical center to and from the convention center beginning at 6am and last shuttle leaving the convention center at 8pm starting July 25.  Volunteers will board the shuttle in the Galvez Circle (203 S. Galvez in GPS).
 

Airport: For those volunteering at the airport validated parking will be provided at the Park MSY Express Economy Parking Garage at 900 Airline Dr., Kenner, LA.  Be sure to bring your parking ticket with you. You will board the complementary shuttle to the terminal.  Your parking will be validated at the terminal upon completion of your volunteer shift.

 

Motor Rally (WWII Museum): Parking is on your own.

Swimming (Cross Gates Fitness Center): Parking at the venue.

Cycling (City Park Festival): Parking is on your own in the park.

Bowling (Bowlero Lanes): Parking at the venue.

 

Attire

Registered volunteers will receive one official NVWG volunteer T-shirt to wear during their shifts. This will serve as a uniform and help identify volunteers and staff to Veterans and other venue staff that may require assistance. Remember to wear comfortable and safe footwear.  The key to comfort is to be prepared for unseasonably warm weather and the possibility of rain.  Bring a light jacket or raincoat and wear sunscreen if you will be attending outdoor events.
